South West Week 2025 – Day 1 Victory for Cornwall

Cornwall kicked off their South West Counties Championship campaign impressively today, securing a commanding 11.25 – 2.75 win against Dorset at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, Wiltshire.

After a narrow Channel League loss to Dorset just weeks ago, the Cornish team arrived determined — and it showed. They took control early, securing a 6 – 2 lead in the morning singles, before claiming 5.25 out of 6 available points in the afternoon foursomes.

Among several strong performances, a standout moment came from Jon Hancock and Ethan Tempest, who battled back from 4 down after 4 holes to win their foursomes match 2&1 — a gritty and impressive comeback.

Cornwall will face Somerset tomorrow (Monday), with tee times starting from 8:00am. Somerset fell to a heavy 12.5 – 1.5 defeat today against host county Wiltshire, while Gloucestershire beat Devon 10.75 – 3.25 in the other match.
