It was another frustrating result for Cornwall on Thursday as
they narrowly lost 8–6 to a strong Gloucestershire side at Cumberwell Park, despite a spirited performance.
The morning singles offered some positives, with wins from George Law and Tom Stephens, and halves secured by Sam Crocker and Jamie Greet. However, the Duchy trailed 5–3 going into the afternoon.
Cornwall needed three foursomes wins to snatch victory — and came close. Jon Hancock & Ethan Tempest and Tom Stephens & Matt Richards both delivered strong wins. It all came down to the final group of Sam Crocker & Billy Downing, but the tricky 18th once again proved unkind, and the crucial point slipped away.
Next up: Cornwall vs Wiltshire on Friday, with the host county sitting second in the matchplay standings behind Gloucestershire. Dorset are currently third, Cornwall fourth, ahead of Devon and Somerset.
